We want to make sure that our content is present within the creative workflow, and so we’ve spent a lot of time building out this API to ensure that our partners customers have access to the content in a way that is well integrated into that native product experience.” More freelancers, small businesses, and digital marketers are building videos, websites and presentations through tools like these. “Moovly is another simple tool for creating animated videos. For example, Magisto is a simple, powerful online video editor that allows you to create high quality productions in just a few minutes,” Leonard described. “We built a really robust API that allows us to pipe our content directly into our partner's products. As artists are using more simple browser-based editing tools, Storyblocks has been aiming to be present wherever the creative process takes place. Leonard said that for years, people came to the Storyblocks website to find high-quality and affordable stock media by browsing or searching for the content, downloading it and uploading it to their own project. Storyblocks leveraged its technology over the last couple years to redefine the way creative people access their library. ![]() We believe that trust, in combination with a strong and growing membership base, is the most important element in attracting the top talent.” Our willingness to think creatively about how to extend contributor earnings has allowed us to build trust with the community over time. By the time you found the right shot, and selected the distribution rights you needed, you were paying thousands of dollars for a single clip,” Leonard added. “At the time buying stock was complicated and expensive. Those brands also regularly broadcasted unscripted content, but they utilized “slick editing and stock media.” The editors of those brands also utilized aerials, establishing shots, time lapses and production music. To liven up the footage, Holland drew inspiration from brands like Discovery, Nat Geo and Smithsonian. Leonard said that the interviewed was filled with “tons of great material, but it was dry.” It was essentially a 20-minute static side profile of two people talking to each other. One of Holland’s most prolific interviews was with Arnold Schwarzenegger while he was serving as the Governor of California. At the time, Holland was working on a web series where he went out and interviewed prominent business leaders for advice about how teenagers could figure out what they wanted to pursue professionally. When I asked Leonard about how the idea for Storyblocks came together, he recalled a story about when Storyblocks founder Joel Holland was a high school student.
